Hems for A-line, flared and circular skirts.
Curved hems are usually found on A-line, flared and circular skirts. They need gathering slightly to help them curve into shape, or they won’t lie flat. Add gathering ease to the hem edge to do this.
- Flared and A-line skirts have a wide hem allowance, usually 3.5–5cm.
- Circular skirts are best with a 0.5cm hem allowance.
Top tip: Circular skirts with a 0.5cm hem allowance won’t need gathering. Fold the hem as you stitch it flat, stitching on the over-lock line.
