Stitch and snip smooth curves.
To stitch curves, sew at a slow speed, gradually turning the fabric in the direction of the curve.
When two pieces are sewn together inside out, such as a purse or collar, the curves need snipping before you turn it the right way round.
- Cut snips into the seam allowance.
- Space the snips about 1cm apart.
- Cut close to the stitching, but not through it.
- Then turn the item the right way round.

Try it!
☐ Sew a curved line, turning the fabric slowly.
☐ Snip along the curve in the seam allowance.
Top tip: To sharpen curves, push them out with your fingers, then iron along the curved line.
