Card 05 · Getting Started

Three fabrics for most makes.

With just three fabrics you can stitch most clothes and accessories. These quality cottons come in lots of colours and patterns.

  • Poplin cotton, 100–200gsm: dresses, pyjamas, cushions.
  • Drill or twill canvas, 200–300gsm: bags, jackets, aprons.
  • Jersey cotton, 150–250gsm: t-shirts, dresses, swimwear.

Top tip: Look at the weight when buying fabric, shown as gsm. Lighter-weight fabrics are better for summer clothes such as dresses. Heavier weights are better for winter clothes such as jackets.
