The only two machines you need.
When learning how to sew, start with just two sewing machines.
You can learn to sew using only a simple domestic sewing machine. It can sew everything from cushions to dresses. For a professional finish, you may also buy a domestic over-locker, which stops the edges of fabric fraying.

Top tip: I have made many clothes and taught classes using budget domestic sewing machines. They stitch the same as more expensive models. More expensive machines are heavier so shake less, and come with extra decorative stitches.
