Fit a centred zip.
When learning to sew zips, start with a centred zip. It can fasten cushions, dresses and skirts. You’ll need a zipper foot and a zip. Watching a video demonstration is the best way to learn.
- Zipper feet can be single or double sided.
- Fold out and iron the seam flat before fitting the zip.
- Low quality zips can break. Try YKK zips.

Top tip: Pins can get in the way when fitting a zip. Try tacking stitch to hold the zip in place before machine stitching.
