Card 35 · Using Patterns
Lay the pattern the right way.
The grain-line runs straight across or down the fabric. A straight arrow on each pattern piece shows how to place it.
- Cutting on the straight: the grain-line arrow lines up with the fabric grain.
- Cutting on the bias: the arrow goes diagonally across the fabric. It makes the fabric drape in waves, good for flared skirts.
Top tip: Find the grain-line by pulling threads so the fabric frays. The thread that pulls straight across the whole fabric shows the grain-line.
